The Cambridge Audio 640R 7.1 multi-channel home cinema receiver is a remarkable piece of equipment which uses the company's legendary build quality and then embraces the latest HDMI technology to produce a truly great home cinema receiver. The 640R produces an all round multi-channel surround sound performance whilst maintaining Cambridge Audio's renowned musical reproduction.

The key to this musical performance is the seven 100W audiophile grade fully discrete amplifiers which are kept as separate as possible from the processing and input stages. This considered amplifier design ensures that the 640R can reproduce the dynamics and scale required for modern film soundtracks whilst also being able to produce a genuinely musical performance with either stereo or multi-channel music sources.

Cambridge Audio is always at the vanguard of embracing innovation and the 640R allows HDMI DVD players and set-top boxes to be routed to a TV or monitor. This enables direct digital transfer of high definition video to the screen for the very best picture quality. Indeed, digital connections are more important than ever and the 640R has inputs for up to three sources such as SkyHD box, Sony PSP and DVD player. These then need only one output to the screen.


X-Tract Forced / Convection Heat Tunnel

Key to the 640R's audiophile pedigree is Cambridge Audio's brand new proprietary Forced / Convection Heat Tunnel - X-Tract?

This custom design enables the company's flagship AV powerhouse to operate extremely quietly and at a low temperature. A perfectly balanced combination of forced cooling and natural convection effectively draws heat away from the 640R's substantial transformer and output stages.

Careful manipulation of air flow has led to a design able to dissipate enough heat by convection to ensure the unit's fan is only active at the most extreme ends of the performance spectrum. The vertical airflow path for convection has been carefully designed for minimum airflow resistance or turbulence for maximum cooling efficiency.

In extreme conditions a speed controlled near-silent fan gradually becomes active, drawing colder air from the front of the unit and providing forced cooling.

Thanks to X-Tract you'll never again be plagued by irritating and unnecessary cooling fan noise letting you get the most from your music or movie soundtracks.

Multi-room compatibility is featured for connection to Cambridge Audio's Incognito system or other custom install applications. Twin Incognito Ready (Type II) outputs offer plug and play compatibility with Cambridge Audio Incognito keypads or active speakers. This provides connection with up to two additional rooms - with fully independent source control - for the simplest hub-free multi-room system. Second and third zone video outputs mean even the remote rooms can benefit from video capability. Additionally, an RS232 port, IR Emitter In and Control Bus In/Out make it easy to fully integrate the 640R into more complex custom install systems.
