Tea For The Tillerman, is one of Cat Stevens's finest albums, and a gem in the crown of early 1970s singer/songwriterdom. Apart from the occasional string section, Stevens is accompanied only by a three-piece band as he sings his introspective lyrics with appreciable fervor. There are some relatively conventional love songs here, "Hard Headed Woman" and "Wild World". The song "Father and Son" is a poignant but realistic and unsentimental portrait of the generation gap, capable of reducing any given Dad or junior to tears. "On the Road to Find Out" and "But I Might Die Tonight" reflect Stevens's existential dilemmas, and the resulting spiritual quest that would later lead him to embrace the Islamic faith. The graceful beauty of arrangements, performances, and songs makes this album a folk-rock classic.

By 1975 Young had written some of the most enduring anthems in rock history. But from the slow, tension-building piano opening of "Tonight's the Night," he downshifts into darkness and Crazy Horse's folk-country melodies take on a guttural hum that would eventually speak to generations of punk and grunge musicians. Inspired by the overdose deaths of two of Young's friends, roadie Bruce Berry and guitarist Danny Whitten, the title track (and its closing reprise) is a hypnotic cry of "why?" Even the relative party songs, "Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown" and "Roll Another Number," fit the album's bus-to-nowhere resignation.

Viktor Krauss II - Bassist Viktor Krauss has made himself indispensable as a sideman to the likes of Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell, and the Chieftains, and released his solo debut, FAR FROM ENOUGH, in 2004. Like its predecessor, II is highly eclectic, bringing together film music, country, jazz, blues, and rock in a lush sonic package. "Hop," a moody, guitar-driven dream, draws the listener into the album, and features contributions from Bill Frisell, Shawn Colvin (who sings on Krauss's cover of Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"), and Indian singer Shweta Jhaveri. It's been almost thirty years since venerable rock legends David Crosby & Graham Nash recorded the last of their three endeavors as a duo (1976's Whistling Down The Wire).
